Frequently Asked Questions

QSFP+ Transceivers and Cables

What is the 40G QSFP+ transceiver max supported distance?

The maximum supported distance of a 40G QSFP+ transceiver varies based on the fiber type and specific model. For short-range connections over multimode fiber (MMF), distances typically range from 100 to 150 meters. However, long-range connections over single-mode fiber (SMF) can extend up to 40 kilometers at NADDOD.

Can the 40G-LR4 transceiver also be split into 4x10G connections?

The 40G LR4 achieves its transmission capability through 4-channel 10G LAN-WDM wavelength multiplexing, where each optical lane operates at distinct wavelengths to carry 10G data. This implementation utilizes optical-layer WDM multiplexing and cannot be directly split into independent 10G ports. As an alternative, the 40G-PLR4 module with MPO interfaces can be deployed for port breakout functionality, enabling compatibility with 10G LR modules to support 10km transmission.

What are the differences between 40G QSFP+ MTP and 40G QSFP+ LC transceivers?

QSFP+ MTP: Utilizes the high-density MTP connector, enabling parallel transmission, over multimode fibers. It is suitable for short-to-mid distance(<10KM) high-speed data transmission. QSFP+ LC: Employs the LC duplex connector, typically used in network applications. The LC connector supports wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) transmission, suitable for medium and long distances( up to 40KM) transmission over single-mode fiber.
