What Is 25G Bidirectional and 25G BiDi SFP28?

The 25G BiDi transceiver is a type of optical module that supports 25Gbps bidirectional transmission over a single fiber. 25G BiDi transceiver is designed to be compatible with the IEEE 802.3 standard and is available in SFP28 form factors. The 25GBASE SFP28 BiDi transceiver is designed with a single fiber LC connector for bi-directional application. The wavelength bands of 25G BiDi SFP include 1270nm/1310nm, 1270nm/1330nm, and 1289nm/1314nm (1290nm/1310nm). This transceiver utilizes two wavelengths, 1289nm and 1310nm, to achieve bidirectional transmitting and receiving. 25GBASE-BR40 SFP28 is believed to be the most cost-effective solution for long-distance 25Gbps bidirectional transmission up to 40km. Because the typical wavelengths of 25G BiDi 1289nm/1314nm SFP28 module are 1289nm/1314nm, meaning the wavelength interval is only 20nm. Compared with BiDi modules in other wavelength bands, the wavelength interval of this ER 40km 25G BiDi SFP28 module is much shorter, which can be closer to the zero dispersion zone of 1310nm optical fiber. It meets 25BASE-BR40 PMD in IEEE 802.3cp.
