NVIDIA/Mellanox Original MMA4Z00-NS is an InfiniBand and Ethernet 800Gb/s 2x400Gb/s Twin-port OSFP, SR8 multimode, parallel, 8-channel transceiver using two, 4-channel MPO-12/APC optical connectors at 400Gb/s each. The parallel multimode, short reach 8-channel (SR8) uses 100G-PAM4 modulation and has a maximum fiber reach of 50-meters using 8 multimode fibers.The Quantum-2 and Spectrum-4 switches require finned-top OSFP shells for extra transceiver cooling. The main application for MMA4Z00-NS is linking two switches together with up to 50-meter transceivers.

When the connection rate of both devices is 2x400G-2x400G, it is paired with two OM4 MPO-12/APC patch cords. When the connection rate of both devices is 2x400G-4x200G, it is paired with two multimode OM4 MPO-2xMPO-4/APC patch cords.
Q:
Why is the polished type of multimode patch cable used in the NDR module MPO/APC (Angled Polished Connector)?
A:
100G-PAM4 optoelectronic devices are very sensitive to reflections occurring within the fiber, about 10% of the light is reflected back to the transmitter as it passes through the optical connector, distorting the data signal, APC's optical connector deflects this reflected light.
