NVIDIA QM9700 switch come with 64 400Gb/s ports on 32 physical octal small form-factor pluggable (OSFP) connectors that can be split to deliver up to 128 200Gb/s ports. The compact, 1U, fixed configuration switch offering includes internally managed and externally managed (aka unmanaged) versions. They carry an aggregated bidirectional throughput of 51.2 terabits per second (Tb/s), with a landmark capacity of more than 66.5 billion packets per second. As an ideal rack-mounted InfiniBand solution, the NVIDIA Quantum-2 switches allow maximum flexibility, enabling a variety of topologies, including Fat Tree, Dragonfly+, multi-dimensional Torus, and more.

Can the same module on the NDR switch have one port connected to an NDR cable and the other port connected to a one-to-two cable for NDR200?

Yes, it is possible, but the switch needs to be configured to split the NDR port.

Is there any difference in the number of management functions/openSM subnet managers on the switch compared to UFM (Unified Fabric Manager)? Which one is more suitable for customer deployment?

The switch is suitable for managing up to 2K nodes. UFM and the openSM node manager in OFED have unlimited management capabilities, but they require the CPU and hardware processing power of the management nodes to be considered.

Can the NDR switch be backward compatible?

Yes, it can achieve backward compatibility through speed reduction. The 400G NDR port on the NDR switch can be reduced to 200G to connect to the CX6 VPI 200G HDR network card.

Does the IB switch support Ethernet?

Currently, there are no switches that support both IB and Ethernet simultaneously. According to the IB standard, Ethernet data (IPv4, IPv6) can be communicated through the IB network in the form of a tunnel (IPoIB).

What is the difference between a managed IB switch and an unmanaged one?

A managed switch runs NOS (Network Operating System) and is similar to a regular Ethernet switch. It can be logged in and configured directly through a dedicated management port and provides the functionality of a subnet manager (enabled on-demand). An unmanaged switch does not have a CPU on the hardware, does not run NOS, and the configuration is done through a remote configuration tool called mlxconfig.

The subnet manager (subnet manager) is a necessary network controller for IB networks, which contains various functions such as network initialization, routing, and partitioning. UFM (Unified Fabric Manager) is a comprehensive platform that includes telemetry, Enterprise, and Cyber-AI types. Taking the most commonly used UFM Enterprise as an example, it provides web-based whole-network management, monitoring, and analysis functions. UFM can manage the entire IB network through in-band IB connections and monitor the IB network end-to-end, including HCAs (IB network cards), cables, and IB switches. The server that deploys UFM needs to meet the requirements of UFM software (UFM Telemetry/Enterprise) and be equipped with IB network cards for in-band IB connections.

The NDR 9700/9790 switch claims to have 64 400Gb ports, but why does it only have 32 OSFP ports?

Due to size and power limitations, the 1U panel of the NDR switch can only accommodate 32 cages (OSFP). Each OSFP physical interface provides two independent 400G interfaces, known as Twin-port 400G.

What is the difference between P2C and C2P airflow in IB switches?

P2C stands for power-to-connector, while C2P stands for connector-to-power.
